So there’s this guy….

…and he’s kind of a financial genius.  He has helped thousands of people become debt free and build wealth.  Maybe you have heard of him?  His name is Dave Ramsey.  My husband and I have recently started following Dave’s plan and we are on our way to financial freedom.

He has a plan all set up that works in everyone’s financial situation. It’s simple….

  1. Read his book, listen to it on CD, listen to his podcasts, watch his videos on Youtube…..get familiar with his process.
  2. follow the baby steps.
  3. achieve financial freedom

Sounds easy huh?  That’s because it is!  The process is easy to understand, but that doesn’t mean it is easy to do.  You need to commit to this process.  You need to understand there may be setbacks and you need to be ok with that.  Anyone can make a budget, but not everyone can actually stick to it.  That’s the toughest part (in my opinion).  If you are married, you AND your spouse need to both be on board and work as a team.  Otherwise, its not going to work.

So how can you get started?  The Dave Ramsey website is having a sale right now and many of his books are on sale for $10!  You can NOT go wrong with this guy!  Here’s the link: http://www.daveramsey.com/store/c10ds.html

After you read his book, you should have a clear understanding of the baby steps… but here’s a visual to give you an idea.

We have already completed baby step #1 which is to have a $1000 emergency fund.  As Dave says…. The emergency fund is not to pay the pizza delivery man.  It is for true emergencies and easily accessible if needed.

Baby step #2 is both scary and exciting at the same time.  It is scary because you need to be completely honest with yourself about how much debt you have.  For some, there isn’t much at all.  For others, there is so much, they don’t know how they will ever get it all paid off.  We have quite a bit of debt due to starting up the deer farm, missed work due to medical problems, and the medical problems themselves.  But… we are determined to be successful.  We will be on a strict budget for a while, but the end result is worth it.
